Work

I’ve been CREATING software for 20 years.   This page is really a landing page for some of the things I am working on.  I figured while I am here I will just write a short bio and use it as a cover letter 🙂

So, like I said, 20 years.  The majority of my time has been with a single company, General Electric.  I lived in 6 different locations working for GE.  I’ve worked with gas/steam turbines, wind turbines, locomotives, MRI machines, airplanes…I’ve created solutions in just about every language and on all platforms…all in an effort to collect data and try to learn just a little bit more about what will make these machines run a bit faster, more reliable, longer…or more importantly, why they stop running.  We put the IOT in IOT.

I decided to leave GE after 17 years.  The day to day intensity coupled with the never ending relocations wore me out.  I needed a break.  I have spent my recent days consulting and building sites and apps for private parties.  While enjoyable, I’m itching to get back to the grind.

While I have been a developer in the past, and am currently developing privately, my expertise is in management and operations.  I’ve lead teams of all shapes and sizes in a wide range of locations.  I believe in an agile culture, or at least an agile like culture.  Failing fast.  Rapid prototyping.  Co-location. Continuous Integration.  Coding together.  It’s not just about hiring the talented, its about hiring people that fit in your culture, or the culture you want to have.  I believe in and am an expert in software operations.  Along with hiring, managing financials, change management, and pretty much everything else in the typical SDLC…I believe in the right amount of metrics.  To fix it, you need to know its broken.  Measure what isn’t working (to your expectations), find a solution, measuring something else.

I like living in GA but am not set on it.  The only requirement is the next time I relocate, the family goes with me.
